Title: - Executive Director, Curriculum & Instruction

Under general supervision, plans, develops, directs, implements and monitors all programs relative to the DeKalb County School District’s (DCSD) instructional programs; provides guidance with the development and revision of the curriculum; provides guidance with the instructional services provided; supervises the Departments of Core Instructional Programs, Elective and Special Programs, and Professional Learning; and assists the Deputy Superintendent in ensuring compliance with established goals and Strategic Plan.


Essential Functions:

The following duties are representative for this position.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Tasks and responsibilities will be in concurrence with implementing the Strategic Plan and Aligned Management System. Other duties may be required and assigned.


•  Manages programs and procedures to improve implementation of RTI/MTSS and Pre-K through grade 12 core and elective curricula; directs the curriculum revision process; and oversees development and evaluation of current programs for effectiveness and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and mandates.
•  Develops and/ or revises the Curriculum and Instruction’s core, elective, and professional learning policies and procedures.
•  Supervises multiple functions with full accountability for effective operation and results.
•  Ensures that all schools are implementing district, state and federal programs associated with curriculum and instruction for pre-K through grade 12.
•  Ensures that all schools are implementing district, state and federal programs associated professional learning requirements for all employees.
•  Analyzes and interprets data for district and local goal setting and instructional improvement.
•  Represents the school district on state and local committees and advisory boards.
•  Collaborates with various departments, schools and external stakeholders relative to professional learning for all employees.
•  Collaborates with various departments, schools, and external stakeholders relative to local, state and national curricula development, research-based strategies and best practices.
•  Provides direct oversight for departmental budget and ensures that the department’s spending levels are consistent with spending targets established for the fiscal year.
•  Develops, implements and monitors a continuous plan for improving student achievement for all learners.
•  Provides development, leadership, monitoring and training on specific initiatives designed to increase student achievement.
•  Performs other duties as assigned.



Education and/or Experience
•  Master’s Degree in Education Leadership, Education Administration, Curriculum Development, or closely related area from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university is required.
•  Minimum of seven (7) years previous experience with demonstrated successful advancement through the teaching and/or school or school system administrative hierarchy required. 



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PERMITS: 
•  Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in educational leadership at level L-5, NL-5, PL-6 or above required.  If a level L-5, NL-5, PL-6 or above certificate is not held, the individual must be eligible for the NPL certificate in educational leadership.  
•  Valid Professional Standards Commission approved director of special education endorsement in addition to L-5 certificate acceptable.  
•  Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in special education at level T-5 or support service at level S-5 or above required.
